The Kiss Instructor by V. Anton

The Kiss Instructor
by V. Anton
Received a digital copy from author for an honest review

I was so excited when I saw this book was available to review in the Making Connections YA Edition group on Goodreads. I signed up right away, and was not disappointed. What a cute story this ended up being. It was such a sweet story of love and friendship, and was just what I needed to put a smile on my face.

This is a story of three friends, Alana, Adin, and Chris. They have been best friends since childhood. But for Alana and Adin it may be a little bit more if they can admit it to themselves. Adin is such a gentleman, and believes he is too old for her since he is a little more than a year older. So Alana devises a plan to pretend she needs a kiss instructor for her date with another boy. Adin is a little reluctant, but gives in so she won't go to someone else. From here they both realize what they mean to each other. What ensues is one of the sweetest love stories I have read.  But it wasn't without it's hardships. Alana's home is not the happiest of places, and what happens there may just tear Alana and Adin apart.

I really liked Alana. She was a little funny, sweet, and has the craziest hair with a mind of it's own. Adin. I loved him. V. Anton did very well at writing a character you could fall for and feel how he felt for Alana. And Chris was a wonderful best friend. Alana could always count on him and talk to him, and they were like brother and sister. Part of the story is from his perspective which I really enjoyed. It was interesting seeing the relationships from his eyes. It made me want friends just like Chris and Adin.

A few favorite quotes:

"...A blanket? For what? Is this kissing thing complicated? Will I get cold?" pg. 138 on iBooks

"It occurs to me that kissing makes me feel like dancing, free and happy. It's like
baring your soul to the other person." pg. 141 on iBooks

"It is like we are suffering from the same thing: the dangerous smiling virus. A virus that makes the muscles of your face sore. What a great way of getting hurt!" pg. 215 on iBooks

This was a fun light read that I recommend to everyone! I look forward to future books by V. Anton.

Avenger by Heather Burch

Avenger
by Heather Burch
Publisher: Zonderkidz-Books
Expected Publication Date: April 2, 2013

I would like to thank Zonderkidz-Books and Heather Burch for providing me with a copy of Avenger for an honest review. I thought this was a great ending to the series, and wrapped it up nicely while still leaving it open for possible spin offs. While I thought Guardian, book 2 in the series, focused on the love triangle, Avenger did a great job at wrapping that up and leaving me pleased with the outcome, while also bringing on more action and adventure that didn't revolve around all that love.

This series has been about Nikki, and she finally gets to fulfill her destiny and be an "Avenger" in this final book. This required some more growing on her part. Nikki was finally able to recognize and feel faith. She had thought she found it in book 2, but realized it was Raven's faith she was depending on. And she was able to find the strength, through her faith, from Raven's efforts to keep her safe, and through Mace's love, to defeat a new monster, the Seeker, that was sent after her by Damon Vessler. What a lot of action this was. But it made everyone stronger, and they all realized where their strengths were and where they belonged. And she finally gets to become a Halfling with beautiful wings.

But of course, the action did not end there. Vessler still needed Nikki as the pawn in his evil plan for world domination. His plan to bring her to the dark side continued until the end. This was made possible by the added kidnapping of one of the Halflings own, and using it to lure Nikki to his lab. From here it was a battle for who would stay strongest, and ending with some sacrifices that will bring tears to your eyes.

And I have to talk about Damon Vessler. This has got to be one of the characters that I hate the most of any character ever. He used anything and everything to try and bring Nikki to the dark side. And he wasn't above any means of pain, torture, conspiracy, or blackmail. Pure evil. His ways had me even hating the book at one point.

I love the Lost Boys, and Heather Burch did a great job at building their characters to have me torn between who I loved most. I love how Vine always needs candy, Raven is fun and reckless yet strong and there to save the day, and Mace is a determined leader and always pushing to do better, yet compassionate.

Nikki is another story. One minute I like her, and the next I wanted to strangle her. But her motivation was always to save someone else, and sacrifice herself  for them. So I cannot fault her for that. And in the end what she did was what was tear inducing. And at least in this book she was stronger and did not faint.

This story was full of non-stop action, adventure, and romance. It made me angry, made me cry, and taught a little about faith, as it does have some religious aspects to it. I enjoyed it very much, and recommend to all those angel lovers out there.

My rating: 4 stars

Wolf Sirens: Fever by Tina Smith

Wolf Sirens: Fever: Many are Born, Few are Reborn
by Tina Smith

I received a digital copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. After reading Wolf Sirens: Forbidden, and the way it ended so sadly, I jumped at the chance to read this one. I was hoping for some closure. Not sure that that is what I got, but a few answers were given. This book felt a lot like a book of information on all the characters. It had the current day story, but then kept going into past character stories of how each character became the way they were. This made it really drag on for me.

This starts off with Lila being in mourning from learning about Sky. This was really sad and broke my heart. But she is unwilling to accept it. So she decides she will continue, under the direction of Cresida, to train as the Hunter. Then when she is strong enough she can search out the truth. She knows that something is being hidden from her, and is determined to find out the truth, and maybe even seek out revenge.

Actually, this is pretty much the whole story. It was all about Lila finding her way and the truth. And a lot of information about all the characters. We find out how Cres was created, and what she went through. We find out about Reid's family, and his very sad past and his brother. We learn about Cresida's aunt, new characters Narine and Tisane, and about the Cult. And we learn a little bit about the conspiracy going on.

This was not my favorite book, unfortunately, but I look forward to the next book because I know it will bring it all together, and be a big battle.

Tuesday Teaser and Element by CM Doporto

I just finished the third book in The Violet Eden Chapters, and boy was it good. I have just LOVED this series! I was able to borrow this ebook from the library, and then I may have purchased it anyway. And I thought I would just bring you a little teaser. So here it is from a random page I turned to:

Emblaze
by Jessica Shirvington

""Friends is fine, Vi." His hand braced the doorframe as his smile widened. "For now."

Either he was well practiced at pissing other guys off or just had really good intuition, because he was out the door in a flash." pg. 307 on Nook

Isn't that a great teaser? Vague enough so you don't know which guy it is referring to. But hopefully enough to get your attention. I love that this series has a strong female lead character, Violet, one of my favorite villian's, Phoenix, and one of the most frustrating love interests, Lincoln. Definitely a 5 star rating from me:-)

Element, Part 1 novella
by CM Doporto

Received a digital copy from the author in exchange for an honest review
My Rating: 3.5 Stars

First, I must say that I just love the cover to Element. It is what drew me to the book and had me checking out the blurb. Gorgeous colors. And I really enjoyed the story, too. I thought it would be more about elements and powers, but it wasn't. It was more of a romance with the mystery mixed in holding your interest, and I found myself trying to guess what was going to happen.

Natalie is attending school at UT over the summer and is interning at Kronberg Laboratories, along with her friend Lise. On the first day there they meet Sal and Ryan, and things start to change for Natalie. She starts having strange sensations and feelings when Ryan is near. And many unexplainable things start happening to her. I do not want to say much because I do not want to run the risk of spoiling anything. I will say there is romance, love, hot flashes, a drug study we need to know more about, what may be a creepy boss, and the mystery of the supernatural, that all come into play in this short novel. And there are many many things still to uncover about what has been happening with Natalie, and what is the true cause.

The romance in this was sweet, the language stayed pretty clean, and there was enough secrets to try and figure out to keep me turning pages. Natalie has so many mysterious changes going on that I need the next book to see where the author takes it. And it did end with a bit of a cliffie. And since it is a long novella at 168 pages, there is a lot still to discover that has me wanting the next book.

This book will be available to purchase on March 29, 2013.

There is also an awesome contest to win a $25 American Express giftcard, and you can sign up to get one of her snazzy cool bracelets. Now here is the gorgeous new cover:

Why Do I Write Fantasy?
 or:
You Never Know Who Might Show Up at Your Front Door
By Heidi Garrett

As long as I can remember, I've been obsessed with the truths that my physical senses cannot explain: the mystical things occurring on this planet. Writing fantastical stories is my testament to these other layers of reality.

There are many ways of looking at our world. Imagine sitting at home, perhaps in your living room. There's a knock on your door. When you open it, a funny little woman is standing there. She is about half your height, and a plaid crimson kerchief--knotted under her hooked chin--covers her head. Her dress is sack-like over her square body. She's wearing an apron that could use a good ironing and she's carrying a battered brown suitcase that's almost as big as she is.

"As long as you're staring, a glass of water would be nice," she says.

Despite her gruff manner, you sense something mysterious about this stranger, and to be honest, you're dying to know more about her. When she crosses the threshold of your home, a strong wind slams the door behind her. You both jump. There hasn't been a breeze all day. In fact, it's sweltering and heat waves have been rising from the melting pavement for weeks.

When you offer it, she almost grabs the glass from your hand, and you can't stop your staring--even though you know it's rude--as she drinks in noisy gulps.

"What? You've never seen a spring faerie before?" she asks.

Before you can answer, she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand. "Guess not, there aren't many of us left. And I haven't been to the Mortal World, since..." She stops. Her deeply etched face softens. Something like sorrow pools in her dark brown eyes. She waves her hand. "That's not what I'm here to talk about."

Your heart tugs. You want to pull her from that sad place. "What's in your suitcase?"

She points to the table. "I'll show you."

The suitcase is filled with eyeglasses. There are so many. Some have square black frames, others have round wire frames; there are a few speckled frames with octagonal lenses. You spy a pair of purple ones.

She shoves a pair of thick black glasses into your hand. "Put these on. Tell me what you see."

With the eyeglasses settled on the bridge of your nose, you can't see anything but yourself. You blink. You can see your hands and feet, your legs and toes. But the spring faerie--if that's really what she is--is just a blur. You pull them off. She trades them for a pair of wire rims. With these glasses you can see her and your home.

"What's your name?" you ask.

"Flora."

"Like flowers blooming."

She nods and looks away with that whiff of sadness.

Again, there is something about her that pulls at your heart. You think of the miracle of spring after a long hard winter, and that she shouldn't be sad--if she really is a spring faerie.

"But...you don't have any wings," you say.

She smoothes the wrinkles in her apron. "Not all faeries do."

"But--"

She almost jerks the wire-rim spectacles from your nose. You reach for that purple pair. She doesn't stop you. Now, you can see down the street; your eyes travel the highway. Your view elevates, as if you are a bird. Soon you see the entire city you live in. With each pair of glasses, you see the bigger world.

When Flora tucks the temple arms of a pair of red frames behind your ears, perspective zooms around you. It's like the lens pulls you into outer space, and you can see the entire world and all the billions of people who live on Earth.

Your heart flutters in your chest; it's a lot to take in.

"Now--" Flora hands you a pair of fuchsia glasses with tiny rhinestones embedded in the frames. "Try on these."

When you put them on, you're able to see beyond the physical entirety of the world into the things that you've always known exist, but since you can't see, touch, smell, or hear them, sometimes you've doubted. But you'll never doubt again, because now--with these special glasses--you can actually see the bonds of love that death can never sever, the strings of fate that wrap the brown paper package of all our lives with twine, the tide of time that alters us, even as we never change...

But most importantly, you've seen that you belong here, on this planet. And you know--without a shadow of a doubt--that everything fits. Including you.

"I don't ever want to take these glasses off," you say.

Flora is already cramming the rest of them back into her bag. "Then don't."
__________

The Queen of the Realm of Faerie is a fairy tale fantasy series that briges the Mortal and Enchanted worlds. The main character, Melia, is an eighteen-year-old half-faerie, half-mortal. She lives in Illialei, a country in the Enchanted World, with her two sisters and their mother. Melia's father has been exiled to the Mortal World, and her best friend is a pixie.

When the story opens in the first book, Melia is troubled by her dark moon visions, gossip she overhears about her parents at the local market, and the trauma of living among full-blooded faeries with wings--she doesn't have any.

As the series unfolds, the historic and mystical forces that shape Melia's life are revealed. Each step of her journey-- to find the place where she belongs--alters her perceptions about herself, deepens her relationships with others, and enlarges her world view.

In The Dragon Carnivale, book 3 of The Queen of the Realm of Faerie, energies in the Enchanted World are shifting and new alliances are forming; the Battle of Dark and Light has begun. Melia is desperate to make things right with Ryder, the young priest from Idonne, but first she must warn the half-bloods in the Mortal World that Umbra is coming for them, and face the powerful Dragonwitch and her spectacular Dragon Carnivale.

The first two books in the series: Nandana's Mark and The Flower of Isbelline are currently available at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, Kobo, and Smashwords. Nandana's Mark is free.

The Dragon Carnivale is scheduled for a June 18, 2013, release.

Tuesday Teaser and Angel Evolution

I started reading Entice by Jessica Shirvington last night, and am so mad at myself for waiting so long to read it. This is book 2 in her Embrace series. I am LOVING it! So here is a teaser:

"He was making sure I wouldn't go all schoolgirl on him--because in the end, we still couldn't be together. But just the idea of having a moment of closeness with him--even if only for medicinal purposes--was too tempting to deny." pg 29 on Nook

Mmm...sounds good! Check it out on Goodreads

________________________________________________________

I also finished reading Angel Evolution by the great David Estes. He is a Goodreads author, and one of the kindest people I know on there. He also has published The Dwellers Series, and has a new series started called The Country Saga, which I am excited to start reading. I read The Moon Dwellers and loved it, so I went back to the beginning to his first book. Though I did not love it as much as The Moon Dwellers, it was still entertaining, and worth finishing.

When I first started this book I thought it was going to turn into a love triangle, but surprisingly it didn't. I think I would have enjoyed a little triangle fighting, but it was good without it. Taylor is a human that is just starting college, when she meets Gabriel, who happens to be a man with wings, or an angel. Not a heavenly angel. He is there to trick her to be on his side in a big angel/demon war. But then he starts to fall for her, which wasn't his plan, and is having a few second thoughts about what to do. But not enough second thoughts to make me like him. I kind of liked him at the end, but I will have to see in the sequels.

Taylor kept saying she had a second sense that warned her of danger, but I didn't think she really paid attention to it. She bothered me. She made a few choices in the end to be strong on her own, but that is also yet to be determined.

And there was also Chris. He is the one I thought would top off the triangle, but didn't. He is a demon. And he is the group that Gabriel has been trying to convince Taylor needs to be destroyed. But he has his own reasons of being there and trying to befriend Taylor. And he is also dating Taylor's roommate, Sam.

All is not as it seems, and everyone must decide who they will follow, who is lying, and who they will stand up against. I thought this was an interesting beginning to a series, and it will be interesting to find out where David takes it.

Fire

Fire
by Heather James
ebook received from the author
Genre: YA, Fantasy

When I agreed to review Fire, I actually thought it had to do with Elementals. But I was wrong. Sort of. This is about a world with four realms and each realm controls a different element. It was almost otherworldly. And it was a great surprise on its different take of controlling the elements that didn't make it sound so witchy like most books with element control. We have the Helians that control fire, Arcans control air, Brizan's control water, and the Sephans control the land. This book focuses mainly on two of these, but does have all four.

This book starts off with an introduction to characters, and an invite to the higher ups to a summit in the Helian realm, where they are supposibly all invited to talk of peace treaties. But many alterior motives may be involved.

This was told in two female point of views. One was Roxy, who is a Helian princess. She controls fire very well and has trained to be a protector, or a sort of warrior for her people. I liked her almost playful, uncaring of the consequences, wild behaviour in the beginning. But then as I learned more about her people, and didn't really like her very much. She is very spoiled, has an attitude of being better than everyone in other realms, and refers to them as stupid quite often.

The other girl is Jasmine, or Jazz. She has been raised in the Arcan realm and isn't really sure what she is or whereshe came from. I liked her and wish there was a little more of her. She seemed genuine and caring, and smart.

And both these girls are involved with Brae, the Arcan prince, in different ways. Jazz has been his best friend forever, and Roxy is the girl that is supposed to befriend him for a big takeover plan that the Helians have going on. The Helians are very appropriately named. They came across as a very stuck up group that is out for power.

There isn't much romance but I have high hopes for Jazz and Brae. And Roxy may just be getting in the way. I am still scratching my head at a declaration of love that kind of seemed to me to come out of nowhere. I did not see enough happening for this feeling to be coming from Roxy.

Overall I think this was an enjoyable story, and I look forward to the rest of the series. It will be interesting to see the different love stories develop, and find out all about what Jazz can do and where she is from, even though I am pretty sure I have the where she is from part down. And this story is clean for all readers. Great first book from Heather James!

Happy Birthday, Son

Happy Friday Everyone!! Today is my oldest son's birthday! So in honor of his birthday I am thinking it is about time I start reading that book he keeps hounding me to read on a weekly basis. Every time he sees me browsing books, he says, "No, mom. You have too many books, and you still haven't read..." But in my defense, this book is HUGE. We own it in paperback, and it just looks like so much book to get through. Most of my books are ebook, and those do not appear so menacing. And here it is...

And the third book, Clockwork Princess, is out in a few days. I am thinking I waited until the perfect time to start :D

Happy Reading!!

The Witch Hunter

I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of The Witch Hunter by Nicole R. Taylor, which I was given to read in epub format. This book is set to release on March 20th, and you can check out the official blurb here.

My review: The blurb for this book made it sound really exciting. Vampires, witches, a curse, what more could you want. Sam and Zac have been vampires since the Civil War, and the last few years they have returned to their original home in Ashburton. Zac is very impulsive and arrogant, while Sam is kind and rational. So it makes sense that Zac is the one finding and causing trouble. After a run in with an old vampire named Alistair, the trouble just keeps on coming. Zac finds himself cursed by a witch caught in the inbetween named Katrin. Now with the help of their witch friend, Gabby, they must try calling the witch hunter, Aya. This leads to more adventures with werewolves, more vampires, and even a few more witches. And a lot of blood:)

I found this story to be full of action. There was a little romance. And a lot of swearing. I consider this one more of an adult novel. I also found it to be a lot like Vampire Diaries. Maybe too much like it, which makes it perfect for fans of the books and show. Most of the story I could predict where it was going and wasn't surprised at anything, until the very end. The last page gives a big surprise that does have me wanting to read the next book to see if it is what we are led to believe or not. Killer cliffhanger. Overall I think this was a good first start to a series, and the author holds a lot of promise for the future.

Quote: “The first man, Zac, rolled his eyes, "I wasn't going to eat her, brother, if that's what you're thinking. She's a witch and I don't want her to cast any witchy juju spell on me.” loc 4 %

Teaser Tuesday

Today I bring you a teaser from a book I finished late last night, or early morning.

The Boys of Summer
by C. J. Duggan
Purchased ebook for Nook
My rating: 4 stars

"The full-figured lady sported a grey bob that was immaculately kept in place. No, really, it didn't move: there must have been a full can of hairspray on there. She was clearly highly flammable. I clasped my notebook tightly, glancing around with unease; trust Claire Henderson to think candles would make for great ambience in the dining room. The place was a giant death trap for this woman." page 109

Doesn't this book sound fun? I found it to be a great summer romance with a lot of humor.

One Sad Story

I am a scatter brain. If you haven't all figured that out yet:) I have 4 books I am reading at the same time! Yes you read that right. 4. The secret to keeping track of all these stories in my mind...make sure they are all different genres. Sometimes I just get so restless and start a new book in the middle of another one. It is not always because I am not enjoying the book. It is usually because I am looking for something different, like more action, or more romance, or a different subject matter. And then hopefully I get back to finishing all the books I left behind.

That is why today I have decided to highlight a book that made me cry. Except, sometimes I do not remember what books made me cry. And I do not cry at the same things as others. I have learned that from comments on Goodreads from fellow group members about the different books they are reading, and they will say how you need a whole box of tissues etc. etc. and it is one I did not cry from, or maybe required one tissue for that ONE moment. I did not cry for Titanic, or Pearl Harbor, but put on Steel Magnolias, or that volunteering moment in The Hunger Games, and the tears start a flowing. When I pinpoint the cause I will be sure to share. Or not.

So this book that I have chosen today I LOVED. But if I remember right I did not cry. Or I might have, but not much. This is one of the saddest most depressing tragic stories in contemporary romance that you will read. The main character has lost everyone she loves and has gotten close to. As the story is told, and she is trying to resist falling in love again, and letting this new guy into her life, you learn about how she has been left alone. Very sad. But the story is told so well, and it pulled me in, and I could not put it down. Sometimes it seemed over the top with all the loss, and not something that was likely, but I fell in love with it all and want more. And it does end on a happy note. And the book is:

I Love You To Death
by Natalie Ward

You can check it out here on Goodreads.

This book will not be for everyone, especially if you do not like sad books. But I loved it and cannot wait for the sequel, I Love You, Always.

Wishing You Were Here

Last night I had the pleasure of staying up late to finish:

Wishing You Were Here
by Catherine Chant
Genre: Time-Travel, Young Adult
I received a copy from the author to review in pdf format.

This book was a delight to read, and drew me in from the beginning, even though a few times I was wondering were the plot was headed. This story starts off in 1956, by introducing us to Joey Tempo. He was the newest singing sensation to hit Memphis, but within twelve months of being discovered, was killed in a plane crash back to the United States from London.

Now, fifty years later in the present, we have Callie. While looking in her grandmother's attic for 50's memorabilia for a theme party, she discovers Joey's first album, and she finds herself being drawn into his tragic story, and wanting to change his fate. While listening to his record she is transported back to 1957 where she thinks she is there to save him from the plane crash, especially since she ends up in the airport bathroom when she arrives.

But after talking Joey out of taking that fatal flight, Callie still cannot find her way back home. She is now sucked into being involved in Joey's life and career. And what she finds is things are not turning out the way she planned and everthing is in chaos. Now the question that remains is: can she find her way back home without altering too much of the future? And can she fix what she has done?

I really enjoyed this story. Callie and Joey were both great characters, and the tension between them made for a little excitement and romance. But I was worried about how the love story would end. Catherine Chant did not let me down! The ending has one great, unexpected twist that I did not see coming at all. It brought everything together and made perfect sense after you read it. And I was able to get my happy ever after.

Teaser Tuesday

Today I bring you a teaser quote from the book I am currently reading, or in this case the book I stayed up late last night finishing:) This one is from Flukes by Nichole Chase.

"I hauled myself onto the platform and felt his eyes following me, making my heart jump in my chest. He pulled himself out of the enclosure and peeled his shirt off. The boy was gorgeous and he knew it." page 35 on Nook

Now doesn't that sound intriguing?

Don't Panic

Today I have the pleasure of reviewing Don't Panic by Lindsay Paige. I received this ebook from the author for an honest review. You can see the book blurb here.

This is a story about panic attacks and anxiety disorder. Of all the books I have read, I think this was the first for me in this subject matter. It was well written and gave a lot of insight. This story is told by Samantha. After a few different events in her life she finds herself having anxiety and panic attacks in the middle of school, which result in her running from class. On one of her escapes she accidently runs into the boys bathroom, and that is where she first meets Eli. He realizes what is going on with her, and after a few days decides to help her out. He understands what she is going through, and he becomes her anchor of sorts. He would sing to her to bring her back to reality and calm her down, which I loved and found so sweet. Not everything is perfect between them, but soon they find themselves falling for each other. But their are obstacles in their way, and Samantha must learn to trust.

At first I was drawn in this book, but then found myself getting annoyed with Sam. But I understood what was annoying me was from her anxiety, and I read on. About half way I was really drawn into the story, and really enjoying it. I especially loved the romance. Eli had me swooning quite often.  He is Samantha's safe haven. Her ex boyfriend, Chad, comes back into the picture to stir up trouble, and I was so glad for how Sam handled him. I was really worried about the choices she would make concerning him, but she didn't let me down, even though a few times I was unsure.

There was some issues with her dad that were not resolved, and I wish we would have known his side of the story, and if he had a reason for his abandonment. Otherwise it was a great book that teaches you a little more about anxiety, and had romance to go with it for us romantics at heart. I recommend to teens and adults.

Quote: "But I did, Eli. I finally looked at you. You taught me that I have to look at the bright side of things to survive the dark. You taught me that I have to take the good with the bad and just keep rolling. I was just being a hardheaded, independent gal."    loc 94%  on my epub copy

Poet and Don't Know It...

I thought it would be fun to share some silly poems I wrote a few years ago when I was pregnant with my last child. Actually, it is probably more embarrassing than fun:/ I am now having second thoughts. For some unexplainable reason I was coming up with a bunch of silly rhymes while I was pregnant. Haven't really written anything since, and maybe it should stay that way. A lot of them had to do with being hungry, miserable, or needing some sleep:) What else is there for a pregnant woman to think about? LOL You can tell that I am a mother with a house full of beautiful children:) Anyway here are a few of the better ones, or at least not so embarrassing. Hopefully they make you smile and not wish you had never visited this blog.

That Stupid Ice Cream Truck!
I was gonna take a vacation
Had my money saved in a can
But then my children took it
And gave it to the ice cream man.

He drives by every evening
Taunting with his musical jeep
All the children go running
My money, I wish I could keep

So goodbye to my vacation
and so long to the ice cream man
'cuz now he's on vacation
With my money in his hand

My Zoo
Papers, wrappers
Crumbs everywhere
You'd think I was living
With a bunch of bears!

Who's that jumping
Running here and there?
Oh my, I am surrounded
Monkeys are everywhere!

Where'd all this hair come from?
Who scratched up that?
Who's climbing on the counters?
Must be a giant cat!

What's that weird smell?
What could this be?
Oh no! This is bad.
A skunk has gotten free!

That is all, folks! I probably should stick to reading:D

One Moment

Today I am excited to talk a little bit about One Moment by Kristina McBride. I borrowed this ebook from the library. I was drawn into the story right away, and I stayed up most of the night to finish it. It was one of those that you know what is about to occur right in the beginning, but as you keep reading you just can't help hoping that by some miracle you will be wrong. And then when it finally happens, you are in shock just like the characters. Yep, that's this book. It started off with such a tragic event. And then amidst the grieving even more comes into play. Lies, and deceiving, and secrets. The story didn't have many surprises. You know what is coming, but there is an anticipation for what you know is coming, and you are wishing you could stop it from happening, or change the outcome. This is a story of the grieving process, and what you thought you knew being shattered, and having to deal with with the process of healing inspite of the heartbreak. This is a sad story that ends with a touch of happiness. If you want something happy, do not read this book. But I love this kind of book. I loved the characters, even the ones that were caught lying. I highly recommend to those that enjoy a story of love, heartbreak, and a hard road to recovery.

Falling in Love...

When I have not finished a book to review on here I think I will make up stories to tell you. Except I am sure I am not that funny so...just kidding. That is not going to happen. I can hear you all sighing with relief:)

Today I think I will write about Books That Made Me Fall In Love With Reading. Except that is not going to work either, because I have always loved to read. I cannot pinpoint a specific book that made me want to read more. In elementary school I read a lot of the Sweet Valley Twins books by Francine Pascal. Then in Jr. High I moved on to her Sweet Valley High series. I also enjoyed a little Lurlene McDaniel now and then. But the one book that I can remember loving the most, and I believe I got in 6th grade, is The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi. And even though I have not read this book in ages, I have probably read that book the most out of all my books. As I sit here thinking about it I wonder if I would still enjoy it as much as I did then. And also, why have I not made my 2 oldest kids read this book yet?? Well that would be because whatever mom recommends is taboo to them. They just don't understand that mom KNOWS books:-)

So that is my recommendation to all the young readers out there. Go find yourself a copy of The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle and find a corner to snuggle up in and read away.

Ezekiel's Bones

Today I have the pleasure of reviewing Ezekiel's Bones by Kimberly J. Fuller. I received this book from her in exchange for an honest review. You can see the book blurb here.

A little bit about it:
Genevieve is a 17 year old girl that is full of sarcasm, and often times an avoider of listening. She has two good friends, Ariel and Bishop, and likes to spend quiet time at White Pines Cemetery. Her mother, Angelica,  is a clean freak, and she has always felt picked on and unloved under her scrutiny. But things are not at all as they seem. Soon a new girl, Ellie, shows up at school, and pushes her way into her and Ariel's lives. Genevieve is very suspicious of Ellie, and feels some jealousy from her spending time with Ariel.

After sensing a strange vibe between Angelica and Ellie after they first meet, Genevieve becomes even more suspicious. Her mom's demeanor changes and she wants to talk to Genevieve after school the next day, which has her very worried. And to top it off Ellie chased after her after school wanting to talk, and trying to warn her, but she ran off avoiding her.

Through some heartbreaking events, Genevieve discovers she is not who she thought. She is part immortal warrior from her dad who was one of Ezekiel's Warriors. These are ancient warriors created from dead bones, which explains her affinity to the cemetery, and they are around to help protect humans. They have some special powers, and a weapon that follows their commands. And she is the first of her kind. Now, with the help of Ellie, she must battle Shades and an evil character that sold his soul to stay alive and protect those she loves. All this leads to some awesome action and an epic ending.

My thoughts:
I thoroughly enjoyed this story! It was a page turner that was easy to read, and held my attention until the end. It was so much different than anything else I have read. Warriors put together from old bones sounds kind of zombie-ish, but it wasn't. That was just what they were made of, but they seemed to look normal, if not gorgeous, at least in Ellie's case. I found Genevieve likeable, even though she ran off quite often instead of listening. But in the end she learned from her mistakes, and pulled through for her family. There was a hint of some romance, but not a lot. I am a romantic at heart, so I would have loved more, but it was not the what the book was all about.
